Showy Lady Slipper (Cypripedium Reginae)

We can’t forget about the Minnesota State Wildflower! These natives are found throughout much of the state, however are a rare find. They like wetlands and moist soils in woodlands or openings. In 1925 it became illegal to pick this particular orchid in Minnesota due to their scarcity. They stand 1-2’ high and can take as long as 15 years to produce their first flower, however plants can live for 50 years! This native plant is difficult to grow in the landscape, however if you are looking to add a unique specimen or mass planting, try the Large Yellow Lady Slipper (Cypripedium calceolus var. pubescens).
